In addition to durability, modularity is one of stocubo's greatest advantages. That's exactly why moving with our shelving system is so straightforward: The individual modules can be quickly and easily disassembled, transported effortlessly, and can be perfectly adapted to your new home.
We asked two of our customers, Anne and Laura, about their personal experiences moving with stocubo.

Anne
Anne moved from an old building/loft apartment into a 100-year-old, historic house. Since her office in the attic was still a roofing construction site when she arrived, the shelf ended up right in the middle of the mess, but it survived just fine thanks to the protective cover. Today, she uses the cubes flexibly: one section serves as storage for Etsy supplies, books, and file folders in her home office and craft room, while another section functions as a TV console for records and hi-fi equipment. In the new space, the shelving unit has significantly more room and really stands out.
How Anne experienced her move:
"The stocubo shelf, right in the middle of it all, well-protected and covered, survived."
Large furniture vs. modular cubes: which piece of furniture was the biggest diva?
“An old 3.5-meter-tall apothecary cabinet with 40 drawers. […] It wouldn’t fit through the stairwell, so it was eventually transported up to the right floor using the exterior scaffolding on the house. […] So, the complete opposite of stocubo.”
Three words about moving with stocubo:
"Easy, versatile, neat."
Laura
Laura moved from one apartment in an older building (Altbauwohnung) to the next on fairly short notice because she needed the space for herself. The moving company simply set the stocubo shelf aside amid the general chaos. In the new apartment, the system sits in the living room and holds paperwork, cat toys, craft supplies, and wool blankets. Thanks to the new hardwood floors and the system’s flexibility, it blends in even more beautifully, both visually and functionally, than before.

What made the stocubo shelf the most relaxing piece of furniture for Laura?
"It adapts to the apartment. I can arrange it however I like: make it taller, shorter, wider, or narrower. It was really the easiest piece of furniture for me to deal with when I moved."
Your biggest challenge when moving:
"The kitchen – if that counts. Anyone who's ever put together an IKEA kitchen themselves knows what I'm talking about…"
Three words about moving with stocubo:
"Simple, space-saving, and flexible."
No matter how chaotic your move gets, your stocubo simply moves with you and sets up exactly the way you need it to.

Frequently asked questions about moving with modular shelving systems
Is it easy to transport a modular shelving system after moving into an older building with a narrow stairwell?
Yes, this works especially well with modular systems like those from stocubo. Instead of carrying a heavy, bulky shelving unit in one piece through a narrow Berlin stairwell, the handy cubes are transported individually.
Tip for older Berlin buildings: On uneven hardwood floors, we recommend using adjustable base plates or leveling feet to ensure that stocubo cubes are perfectly stable and level.
What should I keep in mind if I want to move my stocubo shelf without any problems later on?
When moving, make sure to store all accessory parts, such as clips and feet together in one place. The advantage of stocubo: Since the modules are connected together without tools, there’s no wear and tear on screw holes during disassembly. And if a clip does go missing in the chaos of moving, you can always reorder the connecting clips individually from the shop at any time.
What makes modular shelves special when changing homes?
Modular shelving systems grow with your life and adapt to any new floor plan. With stocubo, it’s less about a single, rigid shelf and more about the system behind it:
Individual cubes can be separated, rearranged, or distributed across multiple rooms, just like in Tetris. This way, after a move, a large book wall in the living room easily becomes a compact room divider in the hallway and two nightstands in the bedroom, without having to buy new furniture. In addition, doors, drawers, or colored modules can be swapped out at any time.
How can you recognize a truly modular shelving system?
A shelving system is only truly modular if, even years later, individual parts can still be repurchased, modified, or replaced without having to buy an entirely new set of furniture. When shopping, you can recognize genuine modular design by these five points:
1. Individual parts remain available long-term: The manufacturer guarantees that basic modules will remain in the product line even years later.
2. Modifications replace new purchases: Elements can be expanded, stacked, or rearranged as desired without special tools.
3. Colors and finishes remain consistent in the range: Color palettes don’t change constantly, so replacement parts blend seamlessly with existing items.
4. Replacement parts do not require custom manufacturing: Connecting clips, doors, or feet can be ordered directly, and easily as individual items.
5. Transparency & sustainability: Long warranty periods and fair local craftsmanship show the manufacturer's confidence in the longevity of the system.
