“I absolutely love my job, and I find being on the road incredibly inspiring. At the same time, I need time at home to recharge my batteries between gigs and get back into a productive groove. When I come back, I look forward to little things like the click of my desk lamp, a certain pen, or the way the light shines through the window. And I enjoy just sitting on my rug and writing to-do lists or pulling random records off my shelf. Cooking is also an important “I’m-home” ritual: Cooking for myself and my friends totally relaxes me. And, as weird as it sounds: vacuuming! My surroundings have to be tidy for me to feel completely at ease.”

“I have a very classic setup: two Technics turntables and an old two-channel Pioneer mixer that’s been with me for a really long time and that I just can’t bring myself to part with yet. When it comes to the layout, functionality is important to me: the setup should be at the right height so it’s comfortable to DJ, with the records within easy reach below. On the other hand, I want it to look nice. For me, that means I don’t want to see the cables – and, very importantly, I need space. For small souvenirs from my travels and, above all, lamps to create a pleasant lighting atmosphere even without daylight. I do try to maintain a “normal” daily routine when I’m at home, but when I don’t have any deadlines, I’m usually not really drawn to the DJ booth until the evening.”

“Of course, my top priority was to have enough storage space for my records. While configuring the setup, I experimented with different modules to find the right shelf height. The cover plate is also great for the DJ equipment because it adds a few extra centimeters of depth. To hide the cables, I incorporated two modules with cable holes. And last but not least, my absolute favorite feature: I opted for an LP box with wheels! I really enjoy packing new records into it or temporarily storing records there while I’m DJing. It’s so much fun and gives me that little bit of a record store vibe.”

“I love the simple design of my new stocubo shelf and the flexibility it offers me. I didn’t have that to this extent before: over the years, I’ve used everything from wobbly tables to other makeshift solutions. Now I have a system that can grow with me and my record collection and, above all, adapts to different situations. It gives me complete freedom and will hopefully be with me for a very long time.”

“I really loved the smell of wood when I unpacked it, and putting it together was super easy, too. But to be honest, what surprised me the most was just how much fun the LP box on wheels is to use in everyday life. I did think while customizing it that it might be practical, but I never would have imagined how much more playful everything feels because of such a seemingly small detail.”

“From my own experience, I can say:

• Don’t underestimate the importance of ergonomics and stability. A wobbly setup or the wrong height can really ruin the fun over time.
• Second tip: The speakers should be at ear level, even if that doesn’t always score top marks in terms of design.
• Third tip: Inexpensive equipment is enough to get started. I learned to DJ on really old turntables. The advantage of this is: If you can DJ on old equipment, it’ll be all the easier later on with high-quality turntables.
• And last but not least: Make it enjoyable and have fun!”
