Anyone who steps into Igor’s apartment immediately senses that this is the home of someone who really thinks things through: about books, about objects, about atmosphere. And about how a home can reflect the people who live in it. We asked Igor seven questions — about furnishing, remodeling and the philosophy behind a good shelf.
You're obviously an interior design enthusiast.
How often do you rearrange your home?
That's true! For me, my home is an important aspect of my life and I quickly notice when something is out of balance. It reflects me, my interests, my passions, my character. And every now and then, my interests change, which leads to a makeover. It's usually just minor changes to details and accessories. There is really only one reason for major rearrangements: new books. Then the shelf has to grow and expand.
What was your biggest aha moment when reconfiguring your stocubo?
I was thrilled how the new configuration with the elements I already had produced a completely new result and fundamentally changed the room. I think it's great that I can keep reconfiguring and getting creative without having to buy new furniture.

First sideways, now upright — what could your next setup look like?
Bigger! I already have piles of books on tables and on the floor again. Soon I'll need more storage space for books and stocubo is perfect for that — just add two or three new modules and voilà, you've got a new bookshelf, so to speak.
It is often said that a shelf reveals a lot about its owner. What does your shelf reveal about you?
The shelf defines the look of the room and, so to speak, frames the atmosphere. The playful changes reflect creativity and a willingness to embrace change. At the same time, it also serves as a “display” for its contents — all the books and small objects I keep in it. So, upon closer inspection, it also reveals a lot about who I am.
How would you describe your home in three words?
Personal, warm and versatile.
What's your trick for keeping your home looking so inviting?
Allowing your own personality to be reflected in your living space automatically creates a special, exciting and ultimately inviting atmosphere. Not everything has to be perfect or conform to current trends. The home should be a material representation of your own character — then it becomes inviting and interesting.
What advice would you give someone who is just starting out with shelf planning?
Start with a simple setup — just like I did: a horizontal shelf with two levels. This basic constellation already opens up numerous possibilities. And then take your time. The shelf should evolve and change with you. Just like life.
