Sometimes it starts with an unused nook, a high ceiling, or simply the desire for a compact solution that makes the most of the space. Our cooperation partner @mengmengliving has just such a corner in her home.
In the following interview, she tells us what inspired mengmengliving, how the tool-free assembly went, and how the atmosphere in her room has changed.
Was there a specific moment when you realized, “This corner needs a stocubo click-in shelf”?
“I already loved having our modular sideboard from stocubo in this corner. But since the ceilings are so high here, I’d been dreaming for a while about something bigger to make even better use of the space. I also love open shelves because they give me so much freedom to display my things and arrange them in playful ways. When I saw the click-in shelving unit, it was basically love at first sight.”
With a depth of just 19 cm, the click-in shelf is perfect for compact spaces. From the small 3:2 shelf to the large 6:4 bookcase, there are 6 sizes to choose from – but how do you decide?
“At first, I wanted the largest shelf in the series, but in the end, I think this size is almost better for my home. The three rows make the display really interesting, and I love the uneven proportions between the rows—it just adds more contrast to the whole thing.”
Was the tool-free assembly as easy as promised?
"To be honest: putting it together was really, really easy! My partner and I put it together in about five minutes, and I think I could have easily done it on my own. That’s a huge plus for me. After all, putting together furniture shouldn’t be an energy-sapping chore or give you a headache."

How can a single piece of furniture change the mood of a room? According to mengmengliving, this corner has gotten a real instant facelift:
“Somehow, it makes the room seem both wider and taller, and the shelf has given me a whole new place to display my favorite items. I’ve rearranged it several times already, and as soon as it was set up, my partner almost wanted to steal it right away for his LEGO and Hot Wheels collection!
It has that slightly elevated ‘museum shop vibe’ that we both love. In the end, we found a wonderful compromise and just mixed our favorite pieces together. The corner now feels much more thoughtfully designed, and honestly, it brings a smile to my face every time I look at it.”
The click-in shelf is our upcycling project and is made entirely from MDF scraps. Does this sustainable background influence how you view this piece of furniture in your home?
"Definitely. I love the idea of upcycling materials that might otherwise have ended up in the trash. I try to consume more consciously anyway: not necessarily accumulating more things, but specifically choosing better pieces that you’ll keep for years, rather than replacing them immediately with every new trend.”
A permanent home, or a life on the road?
“I’ve redecorated it several times already and even moved it to a different room once. So I’ll definitely keep experimenting with it! Since I also run Mimo Collective, a project where I curate handmade ceramics and unique home accessories, I naturally love using the shelf to showcase a few of my favorite items from the shop.”
